A Paris court has found guilty ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of spreading fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of up to eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their lawsuit states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
