Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior official stated the attack left him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
