Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
