Federal Officials Announce Detainment in Thwarted Year-End Bomb Scheme Outside Southern California

Federal agents announced on Monday that they had managed to foil a comprehensive plot to set off bombs at numerous locations operated by two American firms on New Year's Eve in Southern California. The move followed the detainment of suspects linked to an radical offshoot advocating for anti-corporate and anti-government ideologies.

Individuals Apprehended During Remote Rehearsal

Four suspects were arrested last Friday in the remote area located east of Los Angeles at the time they were allegedly rehearsing their intended attack. Federal attorneys showed from above reconnaissance footage to reporters, which showed the group moving a large obscure object to a table. Authorities noted that the apprehensions took place prior to the group could construct a fully functional explosive device.

Names of the Accused Made Public

Based on the public court documents, the four individuals named are Audrey Illeene Carroll, 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, who is 41. All four are understood to be from the greater Los Angeles area.

Reported Motive and Group Affiliations

While authorities did not clearly describe a reason, they stated the suspects are members of a faction dubbed the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This entity allegedly calls for "workers to revolt and fight back against the capitalist system," as per the court papers.

They face comprise conspiracy and having a destructive device. Officials indicated that additional charges are expected in the coming weeks.

Details of the Supposed "Midnight Sun Operation"

Prosecutors revealed that one of the accused had drafted a detailed blueprint last month to attack at least five business locations across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The intended sites were described as "like Amazon" logistical warehouses.

"The bomb plot was detailed," the attorney said. "It contained step-by-step instructions to make bombs … and identified several targets across the county of Orange and Los Angeles."

Based on the case and court documents, the scheme called for planting rucksacks containing complex IEDs that were scheduled to be exploded all at once at midnight on New Year's Eve at five places. New Year's Eve was seen as an opportune time as the document indicated "fireworks will be going off at this time so explosions will be less likely to be heard."

The eight-page handwritten plan, named "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," noted that additional targets could be added. The locations were described as property and operations operated by two distinct companies involved in operations involving commerce.

Additional Schemes and Materials Seized

The investigation also revealed that two individuals in the faction had talked about later strikes aimed at ICE agents officers and vehicles with IEDs in 2026. One individual reportedly commented that such strikes "would take some of them out and frighten the rest of them."

These plans were allegedly planned both at an face-to-face assembly in Los Angeles and through an secure communication application.

Photos included in the court documents depict a desert campsite with what investigators described as IED-construction materials laid out on plastic folding tables.

Official documents states that the individuals "all brought bomb-making components to the location, among them various sizes of PVC pipes, identified as a chemical compound, fuel, charcoal powder, another chemical, and material to be used as igniters, among others."

The scheme also included steps on how to manufacture the bombs and how to not leave behind forensic clues that could be connected back to the group. The suspects had in the recent past acquired components and other items, including purchases from e-commerce sites.

Operation and Aftermath

Federal agents moved in last week when the suspects were running through the operation in the remote area near a California town. "They possessed everything they were necessary to make an working bomb at that location," the prosecutor said.

During served raids, investigators allegedly discovered signs for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one suspect's home that called for "America Must Fall", and "ICE Must Go". At another individual's home, police located a duplicate of the detailed bomb plan.

The suspects were taken into custody peacefully. They were scheduled to appear in court in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
