People have come together around the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over an end to the hostilities in Gaza.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"The violent adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will not present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed state remembrance events until October 16th - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was organized in the coastal city. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams convened in the North African Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to discuss the conditions of the plan.

A prominent delegate involved in the negotiations revealed that an night meeting of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.

The source said the earlier meeting concluded without tangible results, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the talks are "difficult and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but noted that facilitators are working hard to narrow the gaps between the both parties.

Key Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies deliveries
  • Future administration of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In the city's public square that day, young a woman - whose family member survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were lost their lives and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - shared: "Nowhere feels like home now and until each abducted person come back not a single person will be secure."

"After we see all home once more, we can feel relief once more. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

Near the prime minister's home in the capital, people gathered to express their backing for the relatives of the abducted. Israel says nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to return. But we really want guarantees that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about 70% of Israelis want the conflict to end in as payment for the freedom of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects came together to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the dawn of that day in the west side neighborhood, sector and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side area of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the dusk arrives, the fear arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was died by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"My family are terrified of the attacks. During nighttime we are lying together, holding each other, particularly my little child who rests his face on me all night."

"Every second we check the updates to see developments. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had taken in the corpses of several people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the south region of that area reported additional victims had been transported. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while looking for help to the south, medical staff said.

The territory's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
