Outrage as Popular South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.

A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.

The purpose behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested have been made, according to authorities.

Law enforcement said that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building near the city center landmark.

Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the assault.

Important clues, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and investigators have been following their trail to find their destination," added an official.
