Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
