The Film 'Together' Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a test for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it could look like typical body horror, but beneath Together exists a profound contemplation about our choices in loving our partners.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The story begins when Millie and Tim transition from the metropolis to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the tropes end. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two fall into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a strange force starts to affect the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn of scares, blending moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes during something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and far away from his support system. He fears the concept of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he never makes Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

The couple grapple with the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships a decade in. At their core, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could act as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can undertake today.

Together is streaming on Hulu now.
